Dr. Jennifer Thompson was raised in Peoria, IL. She graduated from Richwoods High School and was a member of the Hall of Fame. She received a Bachelor of Science in biology with an emphasis in pre-medicine at Bradley University where she graduated summa cum laude and in the Academic Hall of Fame. She earned her Doctor of Medicine Degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. While attending Washington University, she received the School of Medicine Dean’s Summer Research Fellowship Award.
Dr. Thompson completed her internship in the Transitional Year Program at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, MO. She then began her residency in Ophthalmology at Saint Louis University Eye Institute in St. Louis, MO. While a resident, she volunteered at the SLU Sight Clinic and served as a resident representative for the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Throughout her medical training, she has worked on several research projects and has given presentations and published papers on her findings.
In August of 2012, Dr. Thompson moved from St. Louis, MO and returned to Peoria, IL to begin practice at the Gailey Eye Clinic as a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist. Dr. Thompson has a particular interest in cataract surgery and has been trained in the latest techniques of small-incision cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation. She is experienced in the surgical treatment of glaucoma, including the use of the mini glaucoma shunt implant. She also has an interest in eyelid surgery.
Dr. Thompson is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In her free time, Dr. Thompson enjoys family and outdoor activities. Her parents continue to reside in Peoria and she has a brother in St. Louis, MO and a sister in Springfield, IL. She also enjoys playing the piano and traveling.
