Dr. Barba was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He majored in biology at Loyola University of Chicago and graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1995. While attending SIU School of Medicine, he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, served as Class President from 1992-1995 and received Institutional Honors.
Dr. Barba completed a one year internship at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He then began his residency in Ophthalmology at Loyola University Medical Center where he received a third place 1998 Beem-Fisher Award. He was awarded the research grant from the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness in 1997. In July of 1999, Dr. Barba and his family moved to Bloomington, Illinois and began his practice at the Gailey Eye Clinic.
Dr. Barba has a special interest in the latest techniques of cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation, as well as laser and surgical treatment of glaucoma. He is experienced in laser treatment of retinal disease, including Diabetic Retinopathy. He is also experienced in many oculoplastic procedures, including blepharoplasty, brow lifts, ptosis, and functional botox.
Dr. Barba is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Illinois Association of Ophthalmology and The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
In his free time, Dr. Barba enjoys family activities with his wife and four children. His other interests include traveling, snow-skiing and racquetball.
